The injured employee was part of a two man team performing bird harassment at a landfill. The process required firing 12 gauge cracker shells to displace the birds. After a failed detonation, the injured employee proceeded to eject the miss-fired round. Immediately upon ejection, the miss-fired round denoted resulting in substantial injury to the employee's face and hand area. The employee was hospitalized and treated for the loss of his right eye plus damage to his sinus cavity and skull.
